Kahkewistahâw First Nation

With the eagle we soar

Kahkewistahâw First Nation (KFN) is located 15km north of Broadview, Saskatchewan along the #201 highway and the Qu’Appelle Valley in Treaty 4 territory. The community has a population of 2000+ members, with around 700 making their home on the reserve. Languages include Cree and Saulteaux. KFN is a member of the Yorkton Tribal Council.

KFN’s Chief and four Council members believe in a resourceful and efficient administration empowering members, and in building capacity towards a strong self-government. They oversee departments dedicated to Recreation, Trust, Land & Resources, Housing, Social Development, Finance & Administration, Education, Health, Human Resources and Economic Development. They are committed to working together for sovereignty and an independent, prosperous foundation that benefits their members today, and many generations ahead.

KFN signed its Treaty Land Entitlement agreement in 2002, achieving shortfall of $94.6 million to be used for land purchase, economic development and community infrastructure. Over half of KFN’s land utilizes the management of the First Nations Land Management Act and they are developing Land Codes to transition the remaining land from Indian Act-management to self-management.
